| .: First Rant of the Year: My Right
To Offend |
| I've been hearing more and more
about the sensitivity of others and their right not to be offended.
What about my right to offend? The core of my understanding of
free speech is my right to voice my opinion or beliefs without
them being censored. It seems to me that this right is under attack.
I want to live in a society where I can say if I don't agree with
someone else's belief's or opinions. And for this I respect that
other parties can offend me. If I offend anyone through expressing
my opinions, they should understand that this is part of life
... everyone is offended at some point for their beliefs or opinions.
This should not be taken as a personal attack ... but it seems
that some wish to take away my right to offend. The moment this
happens, society will have started the process of eroding free
speech. I do not condone racism, or any other form of abuse. I
do expect that people have the basic right to say what they wish
according to the laws of this nation. |

.: Oh My!
It's about time I popped back on this little
site for a mindspill. Recently, I find myself shouting at the
TV when the news comes on. You know when you are getting old (dammit
approaching 30 soon) when you cry out things like "this country
is going to shit". Anyway, I digress! 2006 was no ciggies
year, what's the plans for 2007? Is there any point in making
plans for 2007? I'll just see how this year turns out! January
is a depressing month ... skint ... on a diet ... loads of work
to do ... loads of gardening to do ... loads of painting to do
... loads of exercising to do ... better go ... got loads to do!
Oh and well done to my dearest for being one year off the ciggies
same as me! |
| |
.: Still Off The Ciggies!
Ciggies are still off the menu! Not been
updating much recently, moved house, madness and beurocracy was
my world for several months! At least things are calming down
now. Recenlty been to the cremation of a lung cancer victim, makes
you think, why the hell did I start! Thoughts are with RP's family
... |
| |
.: Ooooh Healthier Me!
Still off the cigs and feeling a hell of
a lot better for it. Pangs are decreasing and even been to the
pub and not been tempted! After losing the weight I put on at
Christmas, managed to get some more off, never used my excercise
bike so much as I have since January! Never eaten so much salad
in my life. Note to self ... need to keep on going ... |
| |
.: Life Beyond Cigarettes
I'm surviving without cigs... and I've managed
to lose 6 pounds! My house doesn't smell like an ashtray, and
even hubby has given up (although he can't stop eating biscuits)!
I actually bought a lottery ticket at the cigarette counter today
and didn't even think twice about buying a packet. I need to make
this work! |
| |
.: I Need A Cigarette
It's a nightmare. I've just finished my
breakfast on this frosty Sunday morning, I had cereal, how exciting.
Now I am having a really bad PANG. And to top it off I weighed
myself this morning, I've put on 6 pounds over Christmas, bugger!
The thing is, there is still a mountain of chocolate downstairs
I need to resist. Ok, I can do it ... gather my thoughts and distract
myself ... maybe play DOOM3 that hubby bought and shoot some big
fuck off monsters ... then go use my excercise bike and stop eating! |
| |
.: Giving Up Smoking
I've done the right thing, I've quit smoking but it is HELL! Like
most smokers, I really wanted to quit before I did myself some
real damage. I like having a fag, particularly when I'm having
a rant on my website ... PANG PANG PANG PANG ... but I've done
the right thing. I'm still in my twenties, hopefully plenty of
time for my body to heal the damage. The other day I found out
that someone I know quite well has lung cancer. This person had
quit smoking about 6 months before finding out she had a large
tumour in her lung. I feel so sorry for her, I keep reminding
myself that this is the reason why I need to stop, I need to think
of her every time I have a bad pang. I don't know what to say
to her, what can you say? I hope she recovers, I really do. |

.: Peak Oil
Surfing the net, as I do on occasion, allows my brain to absorb
a wealth of information (and misinformation). Due to the recent
press coverage on oil prices, I wondered when oil would run
out (because surely there must be yonks left). So I set off
on my cyber-journey and came across some disturbing information
about the peak oil crisis. Basically, oil production will peak
when supply matches demand. After this peak comes a drop where
demand exceeds supply. At this point, oil prices will increase
dramatically as oil becomes a more limited resource. This will
have a dramatic impact on all societies, especially the more
economically viable countries When oil becomes scarcer, resources
will become scarcer. Think about where your average bunch of
bananas originates from. It grows in some far off county (well
for me anyway), gets on trucks, gets on boats, gets on more
trucks, maybe a plane, another truck and then on the shelf.
How much oil was used to transport that bunch of bananas to
your supermarket? Not to mention that the fertiliser that it
was grown in was made from oil and the sticky labels on the
bananas were made from oil. Say you want to make a yummy banoffee
pie. You take your bananas off the shelf in Sainsburys, drive
home, fire up your electric cooker (powered by a coal power
plant, not much left of that either), and then serve it to your
granny who lives just up the motorway. Get my drift? I don't
proclaim to believe everything I read on the net (yes it's not
all true!), however, I have checked this out a bit and think
we may have a problem. One thing is for sure, the oil production
will peak in the next few years (could be next year, could be
10 years), but after the peak you had better be growing some
veg in your back garden and be installing some solar panels.
So, I suggest reading the following site, it may be a bit of
an eye-opener. My next house is going to have a bigger garden!

.: Liberalism Gone Mad
I'm talking about LIBERTY, the organisation that apparently
protects civil liberties and protect human rights. Every time
I see someone from this organisation in the media they make
my blood boil. I live in a free society and I respect the fact
that I can say what I want but I've got nothing to hide so why
would I object to carrying an ID card? Obviously ID cards have
been proposed by the UK government for a reason: terrorism,
fraud, identity theft, etc.. So I figure if you are a law-abiding
citizen (such as myself) why not? The latest liberal-to-the-extreme
campaign has revolved around the use of evidence obtained by
torture in UK courts. I do not condone torture. But if information
was obtained in another country by these means than why not
use it in a UK court. We live in times that demand measures
to protect the people, the vast majority of who just want to
get on with their lives in safety. LIBERTY, it's not going to
go all 1984 big brother style so start thinking about the interests
of the majority.
